The Performance Engineering Centre of Excellence Is Still A Thing” subtitlE “How To Evolve Your Central Performance Engineering Team

How to make sure a performance competence center survives and then thrives in an organization that transforms to Agile, DEVOPS and CI/CD.

Today’s performance engineers are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They are too specialist to join scrum teams, but if they stick together in a central team, they risk being left out and losing the chance to make an impact on performance. To be effective, we need to change the focus of the central team, away from “doing it all” in a rigid enforced process, to become instead “performance enablers” who educate, advise and assist the projects. In this session I will discuss how we made this journey and what we learned on the way, with tips that you can put into practice at your own organization.

Arthur Luimes is a principal performance consultant. Arthur has more than twenty five years of experience in the areas of performance and capacity- management, infrastructure optimization, security, network management, design, auditing, and troubleshooting of large enterprise networks and business applications. Arthur is the developer of the performance maturity assessment. See for an introduction into his performance maturity model and Arthur has designed methods to automate load testing, and the analysis of the performance tests, to support Agile, DEVOPS and continuous delivery. He also designed a curriculum of courses on various aspects of performance management which he and his colleagues are teaching to DevOps teams. Arthur has developed methods for performance testing and tuning of front end web applications and the performance impact of hybrid apps on mobile devices. Arthur is currently developing risk models for the performance of microservices in Cloud environments, and is adjusting load test methodologies and monitoring strategies to optimize the performance of applications running on a PAAS solution. Arthur is pushing the development of Browser-based monitoring and loadtest solutions, like Selenium based loadgenerators in the Cloud. Arthur is a Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified in Risc and Information Systems Control, and holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.
