What’s New in NeoSense 2.0?
NeoSense 2.0 is designed to help teams better pinpoint the root cause of application performance issues and increase the level of automation in their continuous performance validation workflow.
This 2.0 release adds an infrastructure monitoring dimension to NeoSense’s already advanced synthetic transaction monitoring and automates the deployment of new and updated synthetic user paths to NeoSense.

Whereas the synthetic transaction monitoring (STM) dimension of NeoSense gives insight into application performance and availability from the end-user perspective, the new infrastructure monitoring (IM) dimension provides a deeper understanding of the underlying causes of performance issues for an application. In fact, the STM and IM dimensions work in conjunction to alert teams of performance, health and availability issues on applications and provides an easy way to help pinpoint root cause — even for non-experts!
The best part — the new infrastructure monitoring dimension is included with every NeoSense subscription for no additional cost. Monitor as many servers as you want!
Infrastructure Monitoring Modules
NeoSense monitoring modules are completely agentless; IM profiles are managed by the same NeoSense locations that manage STM profiles. All monitoring modules come out-of-the-box with pre-defined counters and thresholds meaning you don’t need an operations expert for the setup. Current infrastructure technologies that can be monitored include operating systems (Windows, Linux), web servers (IIS, Apache), application servers (.NET, JBoss), and databases (SQL Server, Oracle).
Flexible IM Alerts & Notifications
Alerts on infrastructure monitoring thresholds are completely customizable, and notifications can be sent out by email, SMS, SNMP traps or API calls with options for different actions according to severity level.
When an STM alert is raised, turbo IM kicks in to collect infrastructure monitoring data more frequently in order to detect the root cause of the issue ASAP.
IM and STM dashboards drill-downs can be synchronized on the same timespan in order to conduct an effective root cause analysis.
Automated User Path Deployment
Automated User Path Deployment via CI Servers
When running automated NeoLoad performance tests through Continuous Integration servers like Jenkins and Bamboo, the user paths used in those tests can be automatically deployed from NeoLoad to NeoSense if the tests pass. This means NeoSense synthetic monitoring scheme can always be up-to-date — even in the most extreme agile and DevOps environments.
Automated User Path Deployment from Collaboration Servers
When teams collaborate on user path designs (with either NeoLoad or Neotys Design Studio), NeoSense can now pull the latest designs from the Neotys Team Server or any SVN server, through the GUI or via command line. This speeds up team collaboration and keeps testing and monitoring user paths in sync.
One-click Transfer of User Paths from NeoLoad
User paths designed in NeoLoad (or Neotys Design Studio) can now be sent to NeoSense with a single click. Just do the initial one-off configuration in NeoLoad, and then just click the online transfer button within NeoLoad to update the user paths in NeoSense when you change them.
The New, the Improved, and the Miscellaneous
NeoSense can now monitor URLs with all the same monitoring data and capabilities that are provided for transactions. Simply input the critical URLs you wish to monitor, and NeoSense will treat them as if they were deployed or imported user paths: there’s no need to use NeoLoad or Neotys design studio to get started with monitoring an application in NeoSense!
You can now see the complete cross-dimension drill-down tree of your Analysis dashboard in one single view and, in one click, select and have direct access to a specific dashboard node/leaf: gain both perspective and speed in your root cause analysis!
Recurring Maintenance Windows
Schedule maintenance (or pause) windows that happen on a recurring basis on applications (or monitoring profiles). NeoSense will not collect any monitoring data during this time to cut out the chance of false positives.
The waterfall representation can now be filtered by object type (.css, .js, etc.), size, duration and name to help better isolate root cause.
How to Update to NeoSense 2.0
If you’re a current NeoSense customer, here’s how to update your version of NeoSense:
- Download the NeoSense installer 2.0 (Windows or Linux) available in the Download Center.
- Prior to installing NeoSense 2.0, it is necessary to uninstall current version of NeoSense.
- Run the installer 2.0 which integrates the following steps:
- Backing up data
- Migrating data
- Installing NeoSense 2.0
- Installing the Network Emulation driver (optional)
- Download your NeoSense 2.0 license key from the Customer Area.
- Install and activate the license key.
